Title

Mendelssohn, Ravel & Bartók

Description

Daniel Raiskin, conductor
Claire Huangci, piano

Schubert: Symphony No. 5
Mendelssohn: Piano Concerto No. 1
Ravel: Piano Concerto for the left hand
Bartók: Suite from The Miraculous Mandarin

The Miraculous Mandarin is based on a story by Hungarian writer Melchior Lengyel— a purposefully grotesque and violent tale that lends way for intensely expressionist and experimental composing.

A concert pianist who lost his right arm in the First World War commissioned Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. You won’t believe the soloist is only playing with her left hand!
